The ESBA Scholarship is a big deal, and we’re happy to announce that you’ll be going to an amazing school!
You might be asking yourself, “Where do I study if I win the scholarship?”
When Senad took the ESBA scholarship tests, none of us imagined the challenges he would face, but his experience was a brilliant example of the things that are done so well in British boarding schools.
Senad is now a very successful university student in Manchester, but his school was much further south, on the east coast of England in a region known as East Anglia. His time at school in England coincided with the covid-19 pandemic and he was one of the students unable to return home for holidays because of covid travel restrictions.
Being a boarder is invariably a transformational, exciting and positive experience for students. Living with friends, a sleepover every night, or home away from home are all descriptions of boarding life. Students learn to be independent and responsible, developing crucial personal skills from the most practical, like how to do their laundry and make their bed, to professionally significant ones like planning and organising their workload.
For parents though it can be much harder, as they worry about how their children will manage away from home. Parents wonder will they be OK and how will we know, and who will know if they are not OK? Imagine the situation for Senad’s parents when he wasn’t even able to travel home during school holidays. Who would take care of him? The answer, of course, was school.
British boarding schools are superb at taking care of students and for Senad that naturally extended to the holidays when he couldn’t go home. The care that his parents soon found he enjoyed during term was offered throughout the holidays too.
Care and attention and support – academic, social, health and wellbeing – are all boarding school strengths, just as much as opportunity and success in the classroom.
Senad’s experience during covid was just another, rather unusual, example!
ESBA scholarships are truly exceptional and offered each year at different schools to guarantee availability at the fixed price of £15,000 per year which includes all tuition and accommodation costs. This price is guaranteed for the entire time the child is at the school. For further details contact ESBA
